Via Quadronno

We were walking around in the upper east side along Madison Ave, where there are higher end shops. It has a slight Beverly Hills vibe, but my partner wanted to see something at the Ralph Lauren store. After, we desired for an early dinner, so I ended up finding this place because it had lasagna. Without any vetting, we walked in for 2 around 4:30 PM on a Saturday late afternoon.

Ambiance & Service

The ambiance reminds me of a tiny cafe. At the front, the opened the windows to let air in. However, the restaurant is deep in that you can walk inside into the back. At the back is where the main dining room is situated. It’s a bit tight, but I noticed there were many families with elders here. As we were walking to this area, we noticed we passed by the kitchen and what looked like to be a take-out counter.

The service was decent, as they focused on turning tables.

Food

As we looked around, we noticed many ordered sandwiches or paninis. The paninis were on the thin side, and portions were not heavy. We instead looked at some of the bigger main dishes offered.

The Limonata ($7.50) tasted like a candied lemon Italian soda. It was OK.

The Aranciata ($7.50) tasted like a light orange soda. I thought it’d have more orange flavors, but it was very mellow.

With our food, they gave us this basket of Bread that had some lightly seasoned spread on it. I forgot what it was, but I remembered that the bread was dry and somewhat stale. It wasn’t the best complement to anything that we ordered.

The Spaghetti Saltati Alla Bolognese ($31.50) was spaghetti with homemade meat sauce. The spaghetti was not homemade, and it was dried. Fortunately, it was cooked al dente. The meat sauce was OK. It had a decent meat flavor, but it was unmemorable.

The Lasagna Bolognese ($29.50) was a classic meat lasagna. It looked like they just took it out of the freezer and placed it in the oven. The cheese came crispy and plenty of it. The meat reminded me a bit of ragu and was similar to the spaghetti bolognese. Flavor wise, it was OK.

Overall Impression

We expected this restaurant to be very typical, and we were right. I wouldn’t make a special trip here, but if you’re around the 77th / Central Park area looking for a quick Italian bite to eat, this may be an option.

Yelp & Google Jabs

Such an amazing neighborhood gem. They serve up really great Italian food made with high quality ingredients.

The restaurant is quaint, but I don’t agree it’s great Italian food made with high quality ingredients. This Elitist either has very low expectations or overvalues the neighborhood appearance of the restaurant.

You can tell a lot of folks frequent it for its delicious menu.

I think this is one of those neighborhood restaurants that people just enjoy the vibe and the appearance. The food was fairly unmemorable, but for the price, it’s about what you expect. I’d say this is nearly on the border of Olive Garden flavors, so you won’t get anything that’s really exquisite or astonishing.
