Trudie’s Tavern comes from the RAD Hospitality network known for neighborhood restaurants. Their most popular was Gertie which I haven’t been to yet. They created this restaurant to take inspiration from classic New York taverns and American supper clubs. Since this restaurant wasn’t too far from our place, we decided to check it out. The day before, I noticed there were many available reservations, but when I tried to book same day, there were no convenient times for us. We were successful in walking in to sit at the bar for 2 around 6:30 PM.
Ambiance & Service
The interior definitely feels very tavern centric. It’s rustic, loud, and very bustling. The decor felt classic New York.
The service was very quick without issues. The bartender was very attentive to our questions, and the food came out very quickly.
Food

The glass of Pax ‘Cuvee Syrah’ ($18) came from Sonoma, California 2025. The natural wine had blueberry compote, crushed violets, black pepper, and olive tapenade. I was pleasantly surprised by this. Normally for me, I find syrahs heavier than expected, but this one was lighter with very fruity with a nice smooth tannin to it. It had some nice peppery notes and with a lot of juice in it.

The Potato Pancake with Smoked Trout ($21) came also with little trout roe. This was decent. The potato pancake was crispy, like a hash brown, and the little pieces of smoked trout gave it some nice flavors.

The Meat Hook ‘Pigs’ in a Blanket ($13) was simply pigs in a blanket with everything-bagel seasoning. The beef dogs were just ok, and the sauce had some dijonnaise in it. Overall, this was a very basic dish and wasn’t anything special.

The Rotisserie Chicken Dinner ($39) came with half chicken with Trudie’s potatoes, Grandma’s cucumber salad, and chicken sauce. The half chicken was dry and very salty. The potatoes were texturally delicious because they were crispy, but they were also heavily salted. For some reason the cucumber salad was heavily salted too. Lastly the chicken jus was quite good and had nice flavors, but it was heavily salted. Overall, this dish could’ve been great, but it was salty everywhere. The potatoes were the best part, but even then, it was not enjoyable to eat through it.
Overall Impression
Trudie’s Tavern likely in spirit lives up to creating its ambiance, but the food we had this evening was average at best partly due to misfiring on the seasoning. Their main entree, which should have been one of the highlights, was rather salty and unenjoyable.
Yelp & Google Jabs
One of the best meals I’ve had in a very long time! So blown away! The wedge salad is SO good, pretzel is just as good as everyone says and the burger is one of the best I’ve had in a while
These reviews rave about it being good, but don’t really complement with more description. If this person felt it’s one of the best they’ve had, they shouldn’t be trusted for suggesting any food.
The pigs in a blanket were complimented with an incredible house made mustard.
If someone was that excited about pigs in a blanket, maybe this restaurant really is just bar food.
